| The Commercial Diplomats - A New Unique Class of Professionals
The new unique class of professionals; the commercial diplomats have emerged from the requirements for policy coordination and negotiation among nations on issues affecting global trade and investment. The training of this new class of professionals has been haphazard at best, and has relied largely on a defacto apprenticeship system, which generates neither enough qualified professionals nor sufficiently well trained professionals. This gap between the demand and supply of qualified commercial diplomats has to be met through dedicated training programmes focused on the skills and knowledge required of a competent professional in the field. It was considered that fully skilled, qualified, certified and competent commercial diplomats should have a distinct identification which could only come about if there were competency training, regulation, accreditation and professional qualification. This gave birth to the very first global and leading professional body for commercial diplomats, Association of Certified Commercial Diplomats, City of London, England. Eligibility Anyone, therefore, proving eligible and competent under the criteria laid out can apply through the global professional body (Association of Certified Commercial Diplomats), to be trained, accredited and be identified as a Qualified & Certified Commercial Diplomat (QCD) belonging to, satisfying the criteria of, and being bound by the rules and codes of their Regulatory and Professional Body (ACCD).
